Good Evening to all.
It is my special honor on behalf of the Active Members of New York to present the New York Council of Deliberation Award for Distinguished Military Service for a New York Scottish Rite Mason in honor of Sublime Prince John D. Homa, 32º. The Sublime Prince/s selected for this award must have completed exemplary military service on behalf of the United States of America and must be a current member of a New York Valley of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The Active Members of Supreme Council for New York comprise the selection committee for this special recognition.
This year we are pleased to have selected two very distinguished Scottish Rite Brothers who have been selected to receive this award for their exemplary military service.
Captain Douglas H. Storey, US Navy
Captain Douglas H. Storey, will you please join me at the podium.
The first recipient is Retired US Navy Captain Douglas H. Storey, 32º, who will receive his MSA credentials tomorrow evening. Captain Storey is a member of the Valley of Syracuse. Captain Storey’s service in the Navy and Navy Reserve units extended for over thirty one years. As part of the Naval Aviation branch, he and my father in law were in the same unit that flew weekend missions out of the [then] Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY in P2V aircraft. His specialty was navigation. I first met our recipient in 1968 when my father in law was promoted to Captain. They both were part of VP 837. [Display photo]. During active duty, he was stationed at nine different Naval Air Stations in the US as well as Iceland, French Morocco and Spain. After active duty, his reserve time was spent with VP 837 at the Brooklyn NAS and finally to NAS Willow Grove, PA with VP 66 where he retired as the Commanding Officer. As a full time reservist, he was assigned to the Naval Academy as the area coordinator for the Blue and Gold [Admissions] Program for Northern, Central and Southern NY. His DD214 document lists a dozen areas of specialty and recognition that are most impressive.
Captain Storey is also a Senior DeMolay.
Ill. Deputy, will you please join me for this presentation.
Will you all please stand as we present him a special plaque and US Flag that has been flown over our nation’s capital in Washington DC.
SRW to read the plaque and the Ill. Deputy to present to Captain Storey.
SRW to present flag case and certificate.
Captain Storey, we welcome your remarks.
Colonel E. Daniel Walther IV, US Army
Colonel E. Daniel Walther IV, will you please join me at the podium.
The second recipient is retired US Army Lt. Colonel E. Daniel Walther IV, 32º.
Colonel Walther is a member of the Valley of Buffalo. His service of 33 years encompassed both the NY Army National Guard and the US Coast Guard Reserve.
He is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2004-2005. He was the Logistics Officer for an Engineer Brigade in support of the 42 nd Infantry Division,
an operation that was responsible for manufacturing concrete barriers, managing an inventory of about $25 million and all related logistics in the theatre. He established
and served as the first Worshipful Master of Land, Sea and Air Masonic Lodge No. 1 F&AM under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of NY. He provided a special address
to our Grand Lodge in 2006 that shared this experience with all New York Freemasons
in attendance. He was also recognized and presented with the Wendell K. Walker Masonic Service award at that event. His military resume lists numerous impressive military decorations. Colonel Walther is also a Senior DeMolay.
